2Sa 23:16 KJV - And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD.

2Sa 23:17 KJV - And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

Memorial Day

It is almost Memorial Day, a holiday that has become synonymous with a long weekend, cookouts, parades, and local fairs. But Memorial Day actually began as Decoration Day, borne out of the Civil War as a way to remember those who passed in service to the country.

Officially proclaimed on May 5, 1868 by General John Logan, ''The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land.''
