I John 4:8 God is love. A.W. Pink - ''It is not simply that God ''loves,'' but that He is Love itself. Love is not merely one of His attributes, but His very nature.''

The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell; It goes beyond the highest star, and reaches to the lowest hell . . .

God loved his people even when they sinned against him. Jeremiah 31:3 God said to Israel, ''I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn you.'' God would never quit loving his people in spite of their sins.

God loves us because he is love and has chosen to love us. John 3:16 God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

GOD'S BENEVOLENT LOVE :1 Love See (KJB behold) - Gk. to take notice of because it is important. Note: The word is usually translated know (2:11,20,21,29). Here it is used to take notice of something very significant.

Kind (KJB manner) - Gk. quality. The word was always used of something astonishing. Matthew 8:27 When Jesus calmed the storm the disciples said, ''What sort of man is this, that even the winds and seas obey him?''

Philipps - ''Consider the incredible love the Father has shown.'' John wants those who have trusted Jesus as their Savior to pause and think about the amazing wonderful love God has shown us. Love - Gk. agape meaning a choice or decision, not a feeling. It is an unselfish commitment to do what is best for another person because they are infinitely precious and valuable.
