I John 3:1-3
What does it mean that we are forgiven or saved from our sins? R.C. Sproul - ''We have been so busy defending and defining what it takes to be saved that we have virtually forgotten what it means to be saved. We have come to believe, sadly, that this is the end goal, to be saved. Too many of us don't even know what we have been saved from. Others think salvation is all about escaping the fires of hell. In like manner, we do not devote sufficient attention to the question of what we are saved for.''
John 1:11-12 Jesus came to his own and his own people (the Jews) did not receive him. But to all who did receive Christ, who believed in is name, he gave the right to become children of God.
Children of God - a phrase used to describe those who born again by the Spirit of God who gives them a new spiritual life and nature.
As children of God we are to become like Christ our Savior. That is a process because we have a sinful nature that is the opposite of Christ who is holy and without any sin. So, how do we change from being sinful to becoming holy?
PAST - God loved us :1 Love - Gk. agape meaning a decision not a feeling. Consider the incredible love that God the Father has shown in calling us his children which emphasizes our standing before God in heaven because our sins have been forgiven. We have become his children through faith in the sacrifice of Christ for our sins.
God chose to love us even though we did not love him. God loves us because he created us for the purpose of loving him. John 3:16 God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. That we might be with him forever.
So we are - the children of God in reality, not just in name. We become children of God when we trust Christ as our Savior. PRESENT - Children of God :2a Our position Now - Gk. present reality, ...
