GOD'S GREAT GIFT
JOHN 3: 16

JESUS CHRIST was called "Immanuel" which means "God with us."
Two of the most striking thoughts that ever occurred to me are:
One, there is a God.
Second, this God loved us human beings so much He took on the
form of a human being and walked on earth as one of us. In His
earthly form His name was Jesus.
We have reason to marvel over modern scientific
accomplishments. The idea of our cosmonauts and astronauts
walking in space is exciting. The reality that the God of space
and time walked on earth is even more miraculous.
The most thrilling of thoughts is that not only is there a God,
but He loves "me." I don't know your opinion of God, but I know
His opinion of you. "For God so loved the world that He gave His
only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not
perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
Let's explore that great scripture verse. As an outline for our
consideration let's build on the statement from Ephesians 3: 18,
19 which speaks of "...the width, and length and depth and
height" of the love of God and "to know the love of Christ which
passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness
of God."

I. THE WIDTH OF THE LOVE OF GOD "God so loved the world..."
Who is the One spoken of as having loved the world? God! The
idea that there is a God expands the mind and refreshes the
spirit.
