A few weeks ago, the church gave me the opportunity to preach at a Homecoming service at Kristal's home church in Adel. I served there as a part-time worship leader for 3 or 4 years in the late 90's. I preached some of my first sermons in that church, bless their hearts. It is also where I met and married my wonderful wife. So, it's always a joy to go back to places you've loved and served. It jostles your memory bank a little so those memories that have been packed away and are now covered with dust can come to the surface for just a few moments.

While I enjoyed being there, it made me appreciate this faith family even more. There is no place like home. It reminded me of how far the Lord has brought us over the years and just how blessed we are as a faith family. We may be imperfect, still have some things to work on and are a little quirky but blessed.

We just get used to things and lose sight of what we have. We become so familiar with what surrounds us it loses its sense of wonder. As someone said, ''Nothing is wonderful when you get used to it.'' There is more than just a kernel of truth in that statement.

We get so familiar with the things around us that we fail to appreciate how beautiful and unique they really are. We lose sight of the blessing and value of the things we encounter each day. Over time, we begin taking things for granted.

- Husbands take those nicely folded ''Fruit of the Looms'' and balled up socks in their drawers and clothes hung in their closets for granted along with a thousand other things their wife does for them.
- Wives take for granted the finally tuned motor skills and mental acumen necessary to operate a remote control as quickly and efficiently as their husbands do, while keeping up with two movies and three ballgames.
