PRAYER: A PRACTICAL ACTIVITY
MATTHEW 6: 9 - 13

JESUS CHRIST prayed. If He prayed, how much more do we need to
pray? He not only gave us a model prayer, He went further and
modeled prayer.
Observe Him in a moment of victory through prayer at the
graveside of His dear friend Lazarus. He prayed and the dead
came alive.
Come reverently into the upper room and see Him with His
disciples as He gives thanks for His daily bread.
By all means you need to know He prayed for you and that prayer
is recorded in John 17. Fix in your mind that He prayed for you:
"I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom
You gave Me, for they are Yours ... Now I come to You...that
they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves ... keep them from
the evil one ... I do not pray for these alone, but also for
those who will believe in Me through their word; that they may
be one, that You, Father, are in Me, and I in You..."
Note His kneeling figure in the Garden of Gethsamane as He
petitions the Heavenly Father: "Thy will be done."
Listen to Him on the cross pray: "Father forgive them..."
HOW IS YOUR PRAYER LIFE? If you are not praying, you are playing
and soon will be straying.
There is little in our pragmatic culture that encourages prayer.
Our heroes and role models on TV and in movies neverpray. In the
entertainment world if reference is made to prayer it is in a
mocking sense or involves a devious character. We have taken it
out of our schools and stadiums and have had to put police in
instead.
