AMERICA WITH ONE FOOT ON THE WRONG FORK OF THE ROAD
JEREMIAH 18: 7 - 10

JESUS CHRIST, having been asked is it right to pay tax to
Caesar, held up a coin and inquired, "Whose image is on it?" The
response: "Caesar's!" He then said, "Render therefore to Caesar
the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are
God's" (Matthew 22: 21).
Thus, Jesus Christ sanctioned believers' involvement in
government.
Our ancestors sought and secured God to guide, guard, and govern
their efforts. In declaring their independence from Great
Britain they declared their dependence on God by stating their
belief that all human beings are "endowed by their Creator with
certain unalienable rights."
In that same declaration they appealed "to the Supreme Judge of
the World for the rectitude of our intentions" with "a firm
reliance on the protection of divine providence."
In the equivalent of the delivery room, Benjamin Franklin and
his colleagues were poised to deliver a new nation under God
called "America." The group had reached a stalemate when he
arose to address them: "I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the
longer I live the more convincing proof I see of this truth,
that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot
fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an
empire can rise without His concurring aid?"
He then proposed that the sessions which produced our
Constitution be begun in prayer. The result was the miraculous
