This month marks 500 years since the Protestant Reformation began. Five hundred years ago, Martin Luther nailed 95 theses statements to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. The years that followed became one of the greatest revival and renewal movements in history.

And we're a part of this movement. And we need more of it.
?First, the Reformation was about recovering gospel doctrine.

In the centuries leading up to the Reformation, the gospel was obscured. If you asked how to be right with God, the church leaders would not have said what the Bible says. They would not have said God accepts us us by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. The church set up a number of additional elements that they said were required for salvation.

But men like Martin Luther, John Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli, and William Tyndale saw what the Bible says: God accepts us as a sheer gift.
?We summarize the gospel doctrine of the Reformation with five phrases, called the five solas (five alones) of the reformation. Our justification is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. We know this because scripture alone is our highest authority. And this all leads to God's glory alone.

The Reformation recovered this gospel doctrine. They recovered the ancient, historic message of real Christianity.
