When It Seems Too Hard to Hope (3 of 17)
Series: Exodus: Delivered to Dwell

Exodus 5-6

[Exodus 5-6]

There are times when it seems too difficult to have any hope.

And, in particular, it seems too hard to trust God. How do we trust God in the midst of difficult circumstances.

What do we think in these situations?

As we experience our own suffering and see it around us, we may wonder if we can trust God.

This text shows us that we can trust God when life is hard.

In the chapter just before this, we see Moses and Aaron obeying God. They performed signs before Israel, and Israel believed God. They trusted that God would deliver them.

And now in these chapters, nobody trusts God like this. Not one person. Not pharaoh, not Israel, not Moses. And yet while no one believes God is working for their good, that doesn't stop him from doing it. He keeps on with his purpose, and he shows great patience to his people here.

So, this shows us that when things get worse before they get better, and everyone is tempted to think God will not be faithful, God proves himself through this.

And this gives us hope in our circumstances.

Things often get worse before they get better.

And when circumstances get harder, our hearts often get harder. When things aren't getting better, we can become bitter. But God gives himself to us in this text to give hope in his promises and reason to trust him through the most difficult times.

As we move through this text, we'll walk through one statement. When life becomes harder, and Israel becomes bitter, God remains faithful and God remains gracious.
