LET'S TAKE ONE LAST GLANCE AT THANKSGIVING
AS WE START THANKS LIVING
PSALM 116: 16 - 19

JESUS CHRIST gathered for the last time with His beloved
disciples in the upper room. It was the eve of His betrayal by
one He loved. It was the prelude to His agony on the cross which
awaited in a matter of hours.
Got the picture. It was as though a tornado of troubles was
about to ravage His life.
Those who experienced those special moments with Him chronicled
what happened there. He, our Master, took bread which was to
serve as a reminder of His soon to be broken body and the cup
which symbolized His soon to be shed blood. Pausing before He
shared each, He "gave thanks" (I Cor. 11: 24).
He did what? He gave thanks! For what?
For His body which was about to be broken and His blood about to
be shed.
Now don't get the wrong impression. Though He was about to be
martyred, He didn't have a martyr complex. As His agony in
Gethsamene demonstrated, He loved life and entreated the Father
one last time to review redemption's plan to see if there was
any way to let this cup pass from Him.
There being none, He willfully submitted to the cross.
Here we have a picture of true thanksgiving. We are instructed
to give thanks in all things. If He could give thanks under
those circumstances, we have reason to engage in perpetual
thanks giving.
Throughout His life He encountered the ingratitude of ingrates.
