JESUS CHRIST'S birth was foretold 732 years in advance by the
prophet Isaiah. Christ was one of the few Bible personalities
named before His birth.
The celebration of His birth comes upon us so fast it passes
like a meteor and our interest swiftly turns to other concerns.
Before leaving it too far behind, let's do a little Christmas
stocking. That is, let's stock up on some of the meaning of
Christmas and incorporate it into our lifestyle. Let's lay in
stock the resource of Who's birth we have celebrated. In names
applied to Him we find spiritual assets to utilize all year.
Juliet asked Romeo: "What's in a name?"
In the Bible era and in many countries today names always have
meaning. Our African Christian friends give beautiful Biblical
names to their children, such as, Blessed, Hope, Unity, and Joy.
The angel told Joseph to name Mary's child "Jesus," for He shall
save His people from their sins. The name means "Jehovah saves."
Isaiah the prophet gave us a galaxy of Messianic names for the
Christ. He said, "He shall be called - - WONDERFUL, this takes
care of the drabness of life.
COUNSELLOR, this takes care of the decisions of life.
THE MIGHTY GOD, this takes care of the dangers of life.
THE EVERLASTING FATHER, this takes care of the duration of
life.
THE PRINCE OF PEACE, this takes care of the dilemmas of life.
All that is incorporated in the child borne by Mary.
All that is inherent in the Son of ...
