JESUS CHRIST said, "God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish
but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
That verse is perhaps the best known of all New Testament texts.
It is a summary of what Christmas is all about.
It is said "valuable gifts come in small packages." This has
never been more true than in the birth of a baby. When you look
at the birth of a baby in a cow stall in a remote village on a
Judean hill, it doesn't look like much. When all the problems of
the day are taken into consideration, what help is another baby
conceived under questionable circumstances and born in poverty?
Through the ages God the Father had often chosen the most
unlikely people and ways to achieve His purpose. He chose a man
with a bad speech impediment to address the mighty Pharaoh. He
chose a shepherd boy to be king. He chose a small stone and a
slingshot to slay a giant.
The most unspeakable choice of all occurred in a small remote
settlement of cave dwellers in a place called Nazareth. The idea
of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, coming to earth is
indescribable. However, such transit might logically be hosted
by an angelic band on an blazing asteroid.
God the Father delighted in the choice of a simple young girl
and the most unexpected method by which His Son should come.
He chose a virgin named Mary, a teenager who had found favor in
