Hebrews 13:7
Hebrews 13:7 - ''Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.''
Those who minister to children and youth very likely have the most strategic and important role in the church, because those of us who are older are entrusting to them the most important treasures we have - our young people - the next generation. So, we cannot entrust our students to Kyle Clayton without assuming some responsibility ourselves. So, here are some things the church needs to do. This is nothing new, but a reminder of what we must do to bless Kyle's ministry and ensure his success as a pastor to our youth.
I. Remember their Position
Our text says, ''Remember those who rule over you.'' One translation says, ''Be mindful of them who are guiding you.'' Keep them in your heart and mind and remember them in prayer. This is a present imperative statement, meaning it is a command the body is to constantly fulfill. Believers are to constantly call their leaders to mind. One of the best ways to fulfill this command is through prayer. Paul pleads with the believers at Thessalonica, ''Pray for us'' (1 Thess. 5:25). Perhaps there is no greater way for church members to love their leaders and remember them than to keep them before God's throne of grace.
You should know the name of J. Wilbur Chapman. He was a Presbyterian pastor and in January of 1890 he was called to become the pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. It boasted the largest Sunday School of the world with the church and school plant seating capacity of 4,820.
This was the church of John Wanamaker, wealthy Christian layman. Here one said to Chapman, ''You are not a very strong preacher, but a few of us have decided to gather and pray every Sunday morning for you.'' That prayer meeting grew to 1,000 participants before it was over. He conducted hi ...
