FOLLOW ME! ME FIRST...

JESUS CHRIST compassionately calls out to you today: "Follow
me..."
As the Good Shepherd He appeals, "Follow Me and I will 'lead you
beside still waters,' I will guide you into 'green pastures,' I
will 'restore your soul,' I will lead you 'in the paths of
righteousness,' and even when you walk through 'the valley of
the shadow of death' you will have no cause to fear."
Recently I stood once more on the summit of a mountain in the
midst of the vast Wilderness of Judea. As far as one could see
in all directions the expansive desert stretched out. From my
panoramic vantage point I could see unfold a drama in which
those involved could only see in part. High on a distant ridge a
tiny speck emerged. It was a lonely shepherd. As he walked down
the long slope there soon emerged over that same ridge his large
flock of sheep. In the big picture which I could see was an
oasis in the desert. Slowly, but with absolute certainty, the
shepherd wound his way over ridges and through wadis until at
last he arrived at the cool waters which gushed from the desert
sands. The sheep that followed were rewarded for their
faithfulness.
The sheep's options were not good. They were no better than ours
would be if we set out on the journey of life without a guide
--- the Guide, Jesus Christ.
As only an insensible sheep would not follow its master in that
wilderness, so only a prideful and selfish individual would not
follow the Good Shepherd in life.
Consider one would-be follower of Christ who proposed to follow
Christ, but only ...
