Introduction
1. If you want to become famous for changing history, try becoming either a great military leader, or a revolutionary American President, or invent something like the Internet or the computer. But if you really want to be infamous for changing history, build a friendship with a very influential person, and then stab them in the back and betray them. Think Julius Caesar and Marcus Brutus. Think George Washington and Benedict Arnold. Think Jesus Christ and Judas Iscariot.
2. There is no hurt like the betrayal of a friend - someone you loved or completely trusted. I have seen the devastation of an unfaithful spouse and I have personally felt the pain of being stabbed in the back by someone I thought was a trusted friend. It is one thing to be deceived by an enemy; it is another thing to be disappointed by a friend. You can handle rejection by someone that hates you, but to be betrayed by someone who you thought loved you is totally different. That can destroy your self-esteem, your ability to trust other people, and your willingness to allow yourself to engage in any close personal relationship.
3. We have been in a series called ''Playlist.'' A playlist is a digital collection of songs that you can listen to any time and in any genre that you want. Actually, there is a playlist of songs that were written in the Bible called ''psalms.'' Psalms cover almost every situation and human emotion you could image. Today, we are going to close this series with a psalm that was written by a king who is going through the storm of betrayal. [Turn to Psalm 55].
