Three Cheers of Jesus
Rex Yancey
Matthew 9:2; 14:22-27; 16:33
Billy J. Crosby wrote an editorial in the Baptist Record several years ago. He entitled his editorial, ''Life's greatest score.'' It seems that Crosby was a great athlete back in the fifties. He said, ''It is a thrill to score the winning basket in a H.S. basketball game. It is a thrill to score the winning touchdown. It is a thrill to score the winning base hit...But the greatest score in my life was gained Oct. 14, 1954 in room 14 at William Carey College boy's dormitory.''
He continued, ''Today, I walk down the street in my hometown, and no one remembers the night when I won the American Legion Reward. They have all forgotten the winning basket, base hit and touchdown. To tell the truth, that no longer thrills my heart. But ever since I trusted Christ as my Savior there has been a thrill in my soul, and it is just as real today as it was then.'' In his own words, Billy Crosby was giving a cheer for Jesus.

Matthew recorded that Jesus was Lord over death, demons, disease, nature and sin. He raised the dead, cast out demons, healed diseases, calmed the storm, and forgave sins.
Matthew 9:2 is an account of the story found in Mark about four men bringing a paralytic on a sheet and tearing the roof off to lower him down to Jesus.
This poor man had a crippling disease and a false theology. His theology held him back more than his disease did. The Jews believe that God was responsible for everything that happens. It one is blessed, he is living right. If one experiences trouble, he has sinned.
We are victims of that today. We all carry around baggage with us. We were born on the wrong side of the tracks. We were born in ...
