CHRIST: OUR PEACE IN TIME OF CONFLICT

JESUS CHRIST promised a rare, refreshing, and renewing form of
peace as His gift to those who trust in Him. I have seen Him
keep that promise in many lives in various adverse
circumstances. I have had Him keep that promise to me in hours
of misfortune.
This has been a period that will rechannel history. The
outbreak of war has changed our vocabularies. We have learned
such new terms as: Scud, stealth and sorties.
We now know a patriot as more than a colorful Early American.
A tomohawk as something other than a primitive weapon used by
indians.
A wild weasel isn't an untamed rodent.
A blitz is more than a football play.
An ordnance isn't a service administered by the church.
And carpet bombing isn't simply the children spilling "Skittles"
on the living room floor.
These events have left nerves tested, emotions strained, and
hearts sickened.
Now it is not my purpose to review the events or assess our
national role. It is my purpose to open and apply God's Word in
such a manner as to enable individuals to know and use their
spiritual resources.
In this dark hour when nations can't keep international peace,
He can keep internal peace. There are certain resources which we
must apply in order for Him to supply this peace.
In this passage are therapeutic principles which, if employed,
can afford personal peace. The reason is found in verse 5, "The
Lord is at hand." Several applications can be made of this.
