JESUS CHRIST is insistent about us doing certain things He knows
to be best for us. He is because He loves us with a limitless
love and wants to guide us with his unbounded knowledge.
Don't you love to talk with authorities on things of interest to
you? Isn't it exciting to gain their knowledge on how to best do
something you are ambitious to do?
With the eagerness of a youth being shown how to shoot a jump
shot by Michael Jordan; with the ambition of a gourmet cook
talking to Julia Childs about souffle; the excitement of a
musician being helped to master a difficult chord by their
favorite musician; with the aspiration of a politician gaining
insight from the President on how to run a campaign, we should
respond to the words of Jesus Christ.
He, knowing our nature even better than we, wants to guard us
against establishing roadblocks in human relations that will
inevitably hinder our spiritual life. He knows the two are
interrelated.
In the Master's matchless Sermon on the Mount, He addressed
several strategic subjects. One vital one was how to get along
with other people. Most of us are still in kindergarten on this
subject.
Our society shows numerous signs of our failure in this field. A
growing crime rate, increased child abuse, soaring murder rate,
an epidemic of rapes, and disillusionment of
marriagesare but a few symptoms of our inability to get along
