DEBORAH: HOW TO PUT A SONG IN YOUR HEART
JUDGES 5
JESUS CHRIST gives victory to His people enabling them to have a
song in their hearts. The exaltation following His blessings
should always result in praise.
Throughout the Scripture the principle of praise following
blessings is found. Moses and Miriam led the people in songs of
praise after their Red Sea deliverance. When the Lord led Joshua
through the Jordan into the land of promise the first thing he
did was erect two monuments of praise unto the Lord. Mary burst
into song of praise when the angel announced to her the
forthcoming birth of Jesus. Time and again David did so.
Deborah, God's appointed Judge over Israel, was given sweet
victory by the Lord. She knew her victory in battle over Sisera
was not because of the strategy of her general Barak, or her
wisdom, but the grace and power of God.
In her song she rejoiced in that, (a) the leaders led, and (b)
the people willingly offer themselves."
One of the most humbling charges God ever gives to a human being
is to pastor one of His churches. There is nothing egotistical
in the fact a pastor must be God's leader in a church. However,
there is an equally divine counterpoint "the people willingly
offer themselves."
In heaven there will some derelict pastors who will have to beg
forgiveness for slovingly not leading.
There will be some members who will have to plead for mercy
because they not only wouldn't follow they tried to stand in the
way of a God appointed pastor who wanted to lead in the way
inwhich he knew God wanted His people led.
A reason for the progress of this church is not so much the
pastoral leadership as it is "the peop ...
