May 5, 1961, Alan Shepard climbed inside a little capsule attached to a rocket...he was on the launching pad. The countdown began, and the entire future of our space program rested upon that launch being successful. It was a momentous few minutes in America, but these were the moments which paved the way for America lead the way in space exploration and ultimately put a man on the moon. Without the successful launch of Alan Shepard, there would have been no Apollo 11 with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin (and Michael Collins).

Coming to Acts 13, we see the 'launching pad' for the missionary movement (which is why we are here tonight). Without reservation or hesitation, I offer that this family has the missionary DNA running through every part of their being and on this night, we have come to fulfill God's biblical plan for ''launching them out'' (or relaunching if you prefer) into the work which God has burned into their heart. Many people do not understand this type of burden, so let's read our text and unpack a few truths about the Launching Pad for Missions. (READ TEXT)

''They laid their hands on them and sent them off.'' With those words, the modern-day Mission movement began. From the moment Bro. Lee spoke to me about his plan, his call, and their decision, this passage has rumbled around in my mind. I believe that tonight is an Acts 13 night, and that is a good thing. I will more than suggest that too much of what is done BY the church, in 21st Century America, does not have a scriptural parallel. Listen, as a I pastor, I have found myself guilty of just doing what I THOUGHT best, without a clear scriptural basis.

Tonight, let's unpack this scripture, let's uncover its message for us, and let's unwrap how it applies to us; and then we will be ready to commission this family to respond to the call of God.
