Camouflage Grace (1 of 3)
Series: Gideon: Hero to Zero
Bob Ingle
Judges 6:1-32
Over the last few years, my oldest daughter has developed a fondness for camouflage clothing.
It makes total sense because she's hunted exactly zero times in her life. But for whatever reason, she loves it. She wears camo shirts, shorts, leggings, socks, hats, etc. So, it was really funny last semester at the university she attends, she won a camouflage couch in a student giveaway (picture).
Isn't that a beauty? Mom says it can't come home with her this summer. We shall see about that.
I did a little checking and was stunned to find the vast array of items you can purchase that are camouflage: Christmas wrapping paper, dinnerware, shower curtains, a casket, a Rolex watch, toilet paper, lingerie. For $250,000 you can have this Bentley Continental (pic).
All of that, of course, defeats the original purpose of camouflage, right? The original intent of camouflage was to blend into the surroundings in order to go unseen and unnoticed. People buy these products for just the opposite. They want to be seen and stand out.
As I've been reading through Judges, I keep catching glances of one of God's greatest gifts to us. But it's not blatantly obvious or easily discerned. You might say it is kind of camouflaged. It's there, though, hidden in plain sight. What it is? It's God's amazing grace.
Grace, of course, is the unearned, undeserved, desperately needed, freely given love, forgiveness, acceptance, and help of God. Everything you receive from God is wrapped in grace.
• God loves you instead of hating you because of grace.
•
• He accepts you instead of rejecting you because of grace.
•
• God blesses you instead of ignoring you because of grace.
•
We exist because of His grace. We breathe because of His grace. We are saved through His grace. We trust Jesus because of grace. Even our faith is a product of His grace. It is amazing, isn't it?!
