Open your Bible to Judges 6. Mistakes and misunderstandings come pretty easy to us, don't they?

Like the husband who asked his wife what she'd wanted for her birthday. She said, ''I'd love to be six again.'' So, on the morning of her birthday, he got her up bright and early and took her to a theme park. They rode all the rides, even the crazy ones like the Nail Biter, Widow Maker, and the Colon Collapsar, and all that. Sounds like some of you have ridden that one.

Five hours later, they came staggering out of the theme park. Her husband then drove her to McDonald's where he lovingly ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a delicious chocolate shake. Then they capped off the day by seeing the latest Disney movie with popcorn, Pepsi, and peanut MandM's. When it was all done, the wife wobbled home and collapsed into bed. Her husband leaned over and lovingly asked, ''Well dear, what was it like being six again?'' She opened one eye and said: ''You dope, I meant my dress size.'' Mistakes and misunderstandings come easy to us.

This week I was struck by the fact that on the first few pages of the Bible God introduces us to the Devil. It's as if God says, ''From the beginning, I want you to know you have a real enemy.'' You see, the Christian life doesn't just involve spiritual warfare. The Christian life IS spiritual warfare. The Gospel creates spiritual conflict. Our job isn't to make Jesus popular. Our job is to make Jesus known. And all of hell fights fiercely against that. For that reason, when God saved you, He put a helmet on your head and sword in your hand. In Christ, you are a soldier, not a civilian.

2 Timothy 2:3: ''You therefore must endure hardship as a GOOD SOLDIER of Jesus Christ.''

Now, here's where misunderstanding can take place. We can get all jacked up on Jesus juice, charge hell with a squirt gun, while confidently singing 'I'm in Lord's Ar ...
