Introduction
1. It was the one Thanksgiving Day that I will remember above every other Thanksgiving Day. It wasn't because of the great food that we ate, or the wonderful family I was with, or the fantastic fellowship we enjoyed, but it was because of the tears that were coming down my mother's face. Let me explain.
2. We had all gathered at Mom and Dad's house for our annual Thanksgiving meal. My two brothers and I and our families were all there. This was back when my three sons were very young. Mom was in the kitchen cooking and my dad and my oldest brother, Rick, were talking. There is one thing my brother cannot stand. If you really want to get him fired up, you just slap him on the back of the head. I walked by and got in the flesh for three seconds and popped him on the back of the head.
3. Immediately, he jumped up and started chasing me. I ran around the dining room table where we were going to have our meal and got the table between me and him. He would fake one way and then another trying to get me to make a move. In the process, I lost my balance, fell back into the china cabinet, and my elbow went through the glass and shattered it. Mom immediately came running in from the kitchen to see what had happened and when she saw all that broken glass, she just buried her head in her hands and began to weep. Any son that loves a mother knows the one thing you can't stand is to see your mother cry.
