Job 8: 1-4
A husband knew his wife's birthday was fast approaching so he asked her ''if you could have anything in the world for one day, what would you want?'' She replied with a smile, ''Well, I'd really love to be six again.''
On the morning of her birthday, he woke the love of his life up early, told her to get ready and off they went to the nearest IHOP for a stack of delicious pancakes smothered with fruit and whipped cream and a large glass of chocolate milk.
Next, they loaded up and went to a local theme park. What a day! He put her one very ride in the park from the largest roller coaster to the smallest kids ride. After a long morning at the theme park she staggered out of the park exit...head swimming and stomach churning.
After they left the theme park it was off to McDonald's where he ordered her two Big Macs, large fries and a thick, make the veins pop out your head, milk shake.
Then it was off to the movies to take in the latest animated block-buster movie from Disney. They had Cokes, popcorn and Milk Duds to top off a day of fabulous six-year old adventures.
Exhausted after a long day, she collapses in the bed. With a great big smile on his face, her husband leaned over and sweetly and softly whispered in her ear, ''Well, dear, how'd you like being six again?'' Then it dawned on her what he had done. With one eye opened she looked at him and said, ''Well, actually, I was talking about my dress size!''
Talk about missing the point! Job's friends, miserable comforters that they were, continued to miss the point of his suffering, feelings and his words. Today, I want to introduce you to another of Job's friends, Bildad.
Bildad was big on precedent and history. He was a traditionalist in his approach. He was a by the book kind of guy. No deviation from the rules.
Rather than argue from experience as Eliphaz did, he argues from a more academic posi ...
