Tonight, we continue our series in 2 Thessalonians. It's a sermon series I have called, The Irresistible Church. Find 2 Thessalonians 3:1-5 as we study with this idea in mind, The Ideal Church Member. READ TEXT - PRAY
Being a pastor is one of the greatest privileges of my life. It's not only a privilege, but also in obligation. Anyone who preaches and teaches the Word of God and offers himself as a spiritual shepherd for God's flock must meet the highest of divinely established standards. It is the church's duty to measure and hold their pastors to those standards, which Scripture so clearly and precisely defines. In a command that applies to all shepherds, Jesus told Peter, ''Tend My sheep'' (John 21:17). In the early days of the church, the Twelve resolved, ''We will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word'' (Acts 6:4). Paul, pointing to his own example, exhorted the Ephesian elders concerning the serious and comprehensive responsibilities they had as shepherds of God's church: READ Acts 20:27-28
*After hundreds of years the perfect pastor has been found. He preaches exactly 20 minutes and then sits down. He condemns sin, but never steps on anybody's toes. He works from 8 in the morning to 10 at night, doing everything from preaching sermons to sweeping. He makes $400 per week, gives $100 a week to the church, drives a nice car, buys lots of books, wears fine clothes, and has a nice family. He is 36 years old, and has been preaching 40 years. He is tall on the short side, heavy-set in a thin sort of way, and handsome. He has eyes of blue or brown, (to fit the occasion) and wears his hair parted in the middle - left side, dark and straight, right side, brown and wavy.
