*In January of 2011, I helped lead a mission trip to Jamaica. I know what you're thinking, ''Yeah right, that's the kind of mission trip I want to go on. Suffering for Jesus in Jamaica.'' But it really was one of the most physically demanding trips I have ever been a part of. For the most part, we were working on a church building doing concrete construction. Then, in the evenings we would go to the streets where we would preach and evangelize. About the third day there, I noticed a small spot on my knee that caused a bit of pain. I just thought it was a hair that had become infected and didn't give it much attention. We worked again the next day, and the next, all the while my knee because more and more painful. By the time we flew home, my knee was red, swollen, and in extreme pain. I had a hard time on the flight and making my way through the airport. Our next door neighbor was a nurse practitioner and the moment I got home I had her look at my knee. She knew it was a bad infection, most likely some type of staff infection that was resistant to antibiotics, but she prescribed me something for the pain and an antibiotic to help me get better. That was Saturday night. It really didn't get any better, only much worse. But I'm a preacher and the next day was Sunday. Of course, I had to preach. No time to go to the hospital. Finally, first thing Monday morning I went to the doctor and they sent me straight to the emergency room. They got me a bed and hooked me up to IV antibiotics and watched my knee carefully. The concern was that this little infection could continue to spread and they might even need to take my leg if the medicine didn't star ...
