Russell Moore Video - Reaction to the Supreme Court Decision on Same-Sex Marriage plays before the message

Today' Sermon

As many of you know, our nation's highest court sought to redefine marriage this past Friday. Effective for every state in the Union, is a new definition of marriage that attempts to sweep away the biblical definition of marriage by a 5-4 decision. Pictures appeared in print, on TV, and on social media of same-sex couples receiving marriage licenses in both Tarrant and Dallas Counties. In their decision, the justices argued ... ''The right to marry is a fundamental right inherent in the liberty of the person, and under the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment couples of the same-sex may not be deprived of that right and that liberty.'' It was a historic landmark decision for the court, in league with other history-altering decision from the Court such as, Brown v. Board of Education, Roe v. Wade, and now Obergefell (O bur ga fell) v. Hodges.

Today, I want to speak at the intersection of Jesus' authority over our lives in the matter of money and marriage. I want to call on our church neither to be angry, full of hate for homosexuals. Jesus died so heterosexual sinner and homosexual sinners might be saved. We must love those who flaunt God's laws and recognize they ''we'' were ''them'' at one time in our lives. I also call on our church to affirm what the Bible calls morally wrong. ''Right is right even if no one does it; wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it.'' There is a higher court in existence - the court of divine judgment - what God has joined together, no human being or human court should tear asunder.
