Building a Lifestyle of Praise and Worship
Palitha Jayasooriya
Psalm 34

''I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips'' (Psalm 34:1).

??At a time when he was apparently facing many challenges and pretending to be insane before Abimelech (see introduction in NIV Study Bible), David penned down the words of Psalm 34. In verse 1 he makes a powerful statement when he says, ''I will extol (praise) the Lord at ALL times''.??The above verse challenges us to keep praising God always and to build a lifestyle of praise and worship unto Him. Building such a lifestyle of praise and worship also includes constant prayer and thanksgiving.??In this sermon, I would like share 4 thoughts that can help us build a lifestyle of praise and worship. They are:??1) Music and Song was originally meant to glorify God??This was God's original plan. Revelation 4:11 shows us that all things were created for God's pleasure. It says, ''Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created''. And that includes music and song.

In Revelation 4:10, the Elders around the throne of God are shown as worshiping God all the time. Worship and praise to God is a theme that runs right through the pages of scripture and we will now look at some examples from God's word.??*For instance, the Psalms show a variety of ways in which we could praise God. This includes the use of instruments, songs, poems, our voices, upraised hands and clapping. Psalm 150 further encourages us to use trumpets, lyres, harps, timbrels, strings, flutes and cymbals in our times of praise.??*In Deuteronomy 31:30 and 31:44-45 - Moses sang a solo before the people of Israel which was part of his final discourse to the nation.

*In Acts 16:25 - Paul and Silas sang praises to God at midnight, after being beaten up and put in jail. I guess we could call their concert in chains, the first 'Jailhouse Rock''!
