JESUS CHRIST said, "By this shall all men know that you are my
disciples, that you love one another" (John 13: 35).
It is time for every Christian to get involved in a full-court
press of love for Jesus Christ.
God's Word says, "We know that we have passed from death to life
because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains
in death" (I John 3: 13 NIV).
Tertullian, a pagan born in Rome, converted to Christianity who
later had close ties to the church in North Africa in the Second
Century (ca. AD 192), wrote of the Christians of his day, "The
heathen are wont to exclaim with wonder, see how these
Christians love one another! for they [the heathen] hate one
another; and how they [the Christians] are ready to die for one
another! for they [the heathen] are more ready to kill for one
another."
In Romans 13: 1 - 7, our great debt to society is shown to be of
good citizenship. Now a higher debt of love for all is stressed.
Our actions must be guided by love and not law.






I. LOVE RESPONDS HONESTLY (Vss. 8 - 10)
This results in:
A. Meaning - Vs. 8. "Owe," OPHEILO, no one anything..." Don't
be a debtor to any person. Some interpret this to mean no
person should ever borrow money; no debt should ever be
incurred. The Bible does not forbid borrowing or legal financial
transactions involving interest. It does forbid charging high
interest rates and robbing another by failing to pay a debt (Ex.
22: 25 - 27; Neh. 5: 1 - 11). Banking and investing are allowed
