JESUS CHRIST knew our highest good to be a pure heart--our
deepest longing to see God. He promised to the pure in heart an
exceptional reward.
I. P R O M I S E
"Blessed" = This is His promise. Happy, are the pure in heart.
There are indications that happiness is a rare quality in our
society. Annually, Americans consume 7,500,000,000 sleeping
pills. Each night 19 million shaky hands reach for help.
Eleven (11) million pounds of aspirin are consumed annually.
That has been calculated to represent 7,500,000,000,000
headaches or 50 headaches per head per year.
Centuries earlier Epicetus spoke of happiness and his philosophy
became known as Epicurean. It was a happiness dependent on
happen-stance. The happiness of which Christ spoke is an
internal supernaturally provided joy. The world's happiness is
but a skeleton of that promised by Christ. The world's
happiness is like a wet-weather spring in mid-summer.
Dr. Sladen, Ford Hospital, Detroit, supervises 140 doctors, was
commissioned to write a list of 10 laws of health by the
government. He merely changed "Blessed" to happiness in each
instance.
II. C H A R A C T E R
PURE - KATHAROS = Free from soil or stain, free from hypocrisy
or a double standard, morally free from stain andshame. In
secular use the term was used to describe an army purged of
disloyalty, discontentment, and cowardice. It was also used to
describe milk that had not been diluted by water. We must avoid
