Gladiators Grappling in the Garden of Gethsemane (9 of 13)
Series: Characters of Easter
Donald Cantrell
Luke 22: 39 - 44
Gethsemane may be one of the most reverent moments in the life of Jesus Christ and possibly gets the least attention in the story of Easter and salvation.
Luk 22:39 KJV - And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
Luk 22:40 KJV - And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
Luk 22:41 KJV - And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
Luk 22:42 KJV - Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
Luk 22:43 KJV - And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
Luk 22:44 KJV - And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
I - The Prayerful Arena That Christ Entered (39 - 41)
II - The Predictable Answer That Christ Expected (42)
III - The Phenomenal Angel That Christ Encountered (43)
IV - The Painful Agony That Christ Experienced (44)
Theme: ''The agony that Christ faced as he prayed in Gethsemane''
In this sermon series, I will be preaching on various characters that are involved in the Easter story. Before each of my sermons, I am going to have someone dress up as the character and stand before the church and read a dialogue that describes their life and their part in the Easter story.
I will write the dialogue for each character and have it as the introduction for each of the sermons. If you want to see how this is done, you can watch us on ''FaceBook Live.'' I will be starting this series on the first Sunday of March and will preach all of the sermons in our Sunday Morning Services.
