SOMETHING IN WHICH TO BELIEVE

JESUS CHRIST miraculously cast demons out of a man's son. The
spiritual victory would have taxed the imagination of anyone.
The elated father said, "Lord, I believe, help my unbelief." He
had something to believe. What do you believe?
Some months ago I drove by Columbia University in New York. My
host gestured toward a row of bars across the street and
commented: "Every four years they have a new clientele. The
students come here as Democrats. The next year they are
Republicans. As juniors they are Communist. By their senior year
they are so confused they don't know what they believe. Maybe by
the time they are thirty or forty they have finally found
something in which they can believe."
Have you found something in which to believe?
An early American statesman said: "Only in my quietest moments
can I determine what life is all about."
Have you had any quiet contemplative moments to deal with that
major issue?
Or, are you like Edward St.Vincent Benay who at one stage of
life commented: "I must keep on living but I forget just now
why?"
It is my prayer that these moments of worship will enable
persons to ferret out and focus on their true life values. Now
is a commendable time to decide what you believe on certain
basic subjects. It makes a difference.
There are 78 million unchurched adults in the United States.
That's 44% of the population, according to the Princeton
Religious Research Center
Eight out of ten of these attended church or SS once a month as
a child.
