Be a Peacemaker (7 of 8)

Matthew 5:9
A henpecked husband grew tired of his abusive wife. She just never let up! It was one critical comment after another! No matter what he did, it wasn't good enough! Finally, in desperation, he signed up for a self-assertiveness class at the local community college.
Two months later, he was loaded for bear! He went home and laid down the law! ''There's gonna be a few changes around here,'' he announced. ''I expect a hot dinner on the table when I get home from work. I get to decide what we watch on TV. And, I'm goin' out with the guys on Friday nights - and I'll come home when I feel like it.''
His wife was surprised - but unfazed. She stared at him without saying a word for a full minute. ''You ever use that tone of voice with me again, and you won't see me for a week,'' she replied.
He responded with a technique he learned in his self-assertiveness class and repeated himself. Sure enough, he didn't see his wife on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday passed and still no sight of her. On Thursday, though, he finally caught a glimpse of her as the swelling began to go down around his eyes!
Jesus said (Matthew 5:9), ''Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.'' One of the obvious facts of history is that peace does not exist. Will Rogers once said, ''Peace is that glorious moment in history when everyone stops to reload.''
According to historians, since the birth of Christ, there have been nearly 15,000 known wars. That's an average of seven and a half wars every year!
On the world's stage, peace is missing and conflict reigns. The lack of peace is not simply a conflict between nations. Strife can be found in our homes, neighborhoods, schools, and places of employment.
In the 60s John Lennon sang, ''Give peace a chance.'' In the 90s Rodney King asked, ''Can't we all get along?'' Today, our nation is divided along party lines, with bot ...
