Introduction
1. It is absolutely one of my all-time favorite scenes in any movie I have ever watched. It is from a great movie called ''A Few Good Men.'' If you have seen it, you probably already know the scene I am talking about. [Play from 33 sec mark to 46 sec mark]
2. We are living today in a culture that either cannot handle the truth and in some cases, mishandles the truth, and in other cases doesn't want to handle the truth. That is even true when it comes to the church.
3. Eighty percent of Americans agree with the statement, ''An individual should arrive at his or her own religious beliefs independent of any church or synagogue.'' The author of this study concluded that the most fundamental belief in American culture is that moral truth comes down to whatever we think it is and whatever we believe it is. So, our culture has no problem with a God of love who supports us regardless of how we live or conduct ourselves, but there is no room for a God who punishes people for wrong beliefs or wrong behavior.''
4. We are in a series we are calling, ''Balanced.'' This series is about being balanced between grace and truth. Grace without truth is liberalism. Truth without grace is legalism, but grace and truth______________. It is based on something a disciple named John observed having spent three years with the greatest man who ever lived - Jesus Christ. He said this about Jesus in John 1:14.
''...who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.'' (John 1:14, NIV)
Anybody who has studied the life of Jesus readily admits He was full of grace, but He was also full of truth.
