How we answer Lucy and Charlie's questions reveal a great deal about us!
If other people are here to make us happy, let's face it, they're not very good at their job. Truthfully, we are probably not very good at ours either.

In my more cynical moments, which for me are frequent, I think the only reason the rest of humanity exists is to make my small part of humanity frustrating. They are the tools that God uses to continually show me the depths of my selfishness and self-idolatry!

Let's face it. ''The others'' make life more enjoyable and meaningful. ''The others'' also make life for difficult and messy.

Life within the church is no different. Living and doing life with all of you is enjoyable and meaningful. We bring a measure of joy to each other. We also make life difficult and messy for one another at times. ''Church is messy,'' but as Todd Wilson reminds us, ''It is a mess worth making.''

As Paul closes out his letter to the churches in Galatia, he lays some groundwork to help us clean up some of the messiness and handle some of the difficulties. It is important for us to know because at some points we will all be part of the mess-making crew and at other points, we will all need to be part of the clean-up crew.

Galatians 5.25-6.5 - If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. 26 Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another...Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. 2 Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ ...
