Psalm 23

INTRODUCTION: Psalm 23 is one of the most familiar verses in all the bible. It has been called the ''Everybody Psalm''. Written by David over 3,000 years ago it is as relevant and failure as anything in modern writing.

TEXT: Psalm 23:1-6 (ESV) 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

It points into the future - He will be

- Psalm 23 reminds us this time last week when you didn't have a worry in the world - Jehovah was your Shepherd.

- Psalm 23 reminds us that in the days of uncertainty ahead of you - Jehovah will be your Shepherd.

- Psalm 23 reminds us that right now, right here, Jehovah IS your Shepherd.

And it is not just declaring that Jehovah IS A Shepherd. But the possessive pronoun MY is very evident in the TEXT. He is MY Shepherd.

This unusual language for a sheep. Sheep HERD, they FLOCK together. So it is expected that the individual sheep would say, '' ...
