WHEN CONFESSION IS REAL (4 OF 7)
When Confession is real (4 of 7)
Michael White
Psalm 51
During the summers of 1976-1977 David berkowitz killed 6 women and wounded and raped a number of others in New York City. It was a highly publicized ordeal as the killer would leave brazen letters taunting the police and promising further crimes.. He was an extremely dark individual, was part of a satanic cult, and claimed he we was doing these murders in obedience to a demon, which manifested itself in the form of his neighbor's dog. He is popularly known as the son of sam killer
When he was incarcerated and charged with 6 life sentences he showed no remorse. In fact he relished the media attention. He was such a dark and violent individual that he isolated himself in prison and showed no conscience for the horrendous crimes he committed. It's difficult to imagine an individual more sick and evil than David Berkowitz. The thought that someone could commit such awful acts of sin cause us to almost shudder. You can put him on par with Hitler.
Now after he had been in jail for a number of years another inmate had given him a bible and asked him to read through the Psalms.
One evening he came to Psalm 34:6 which says:
6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him
and saved him out of all his troubles.
That night the son of Sam killer repented of his sin and his life changed dramatically. He wrote letters to the families of all the victims he had murdered and asked their forgiveness. He started Bible studies in the prison. He became a captive evangelist to everyone whom he would meet.

Does it make you angry? Or maybe you would say- maybe he thinks he's saved but there is no way God would actually forgive something like that! What if Hitler repented right before his death and we will see him in Heav ...
