JESUS CHRIST taught His disciples to pray. They did not ask Him
how to conduct a committee meeting. They did not ask for insight
into business meetings. They inquired, "Lord, teach us to
pray." His example had been such they wanted to follow it.
If there is one thing I would like most to teach, it would be
that we ought to pray AND that we should pray more.
S.D. Gordon wrote, "The greatest thing you can do for God and
man is to pray. You can do more than pray after you have prayed,
but you cannot do more than pray until you have prayed."
Andrew Murray remarked, "We must begin to believe that God, in
the mystery of prayer, has entrusted us with a force that can
move the heavenly world, and can bring its power down to earth."
That means you can cooperate with God in running the universe.
Find His will and pray "Thy will be done..." Remember, it is
"Thy will be done," not "Thy will be changed."
Prayer is either the greatest thing we ever do or it is among
the cruelest of hoaxes.
PRAYER IS NOT:
A supernatural credit card.
A magic wand to wave to keep evil away or a lucky rabbit's foot
to bring good fortune.
An opiate to tranquilize nervous Christians.
A campaign to persuade God of something.
Arm wrestling with God.
Samuel Zwemer observed: "True prayer is God the Holy Spirit
talking to God the Father in the name of God the Son, and the
believer's heart is the throne room."
