''Samson's Final Flicker''

Samson was one of the oddest characters in the bible. I will never forget reading about him in J. Vernon McGee's Commentaries; he says that Samson was ''A he man with a she problem.'' This man was a man of mighty muscles, but he had a meager mindset.

In reading his story we find that Samson was continually having issues with Gentile woman. He had fallen for a woman in Timnath and married her, which led to untold trouble and heartache. Then he went down to Gaza and had an encounter with a harlot, right in the enemy's territory. Lastly we read of him meeting Delilah, who was from Sorek, and he feel for this woman.

In the end it would be this weakness that would lead Samson to his sad demise and death. The Philistines had been watching Samson and they paid Delilah to figure out the source of his strength, which proved to be his uncut hair.

The Philistines waited in silence as Delilah coaxed him to sleep and someone cut his hair, then they overtook him and put his eyes out and lead him around like a small child. Samson had lost his strength and his standing with God.

The text before us says this, ''Samson's hair begins to grow again'' and in growing again he was able to get his strength back. This is one of the most inspiring verses in the Old Testament, because it lets us see that God is a God of second chances.

Samson was made as a spectacle for the Philistines as they watched him being led around by a young boy. He ground grain in the prison house, until one day they were having a party. The people were mocking Samson as they had a festive time at their heathen party. Then we see him ...
