AN OUTPOURING OF BLESSINGS

JESUS CHRIST said, "Give and it shall be given unto you." We
still act with reserve at best and resistance most often.
In the Old Testament, is an account of persons' having to give
in order to get. I want to tell you a familiar old story with
the prayer that our Lord will help us see the true vitality it
teaches.
Let me appeal to you to listen closely, from the first, so that
when we get to the end, you will have a better understanding.
Sometimes, we don't listen well to the first of a story and when
we get to the end, we wish we had; so it would have had a more
complete meaning.
Recently, I went up on the mountain where this historical event
happened. There, from my friend, who is a life long resident of
that country and a student of ancient Hebrew culture and the
Bible, I learned new meanings contained in the story that are
not obvious to our American mentality. By your imagination, come
with me to that mountain and let's learn from the experience of
the prophet Elijah.
Stand here with me a moment on the summit of Mt. Carmel and get
your bearings. Northward can be seen snowcapped Mt. Herman
lifting its head into the heavens. To your left in the distance
can be seen the sparkling deep waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
At Carmel's base winds the brook, Kishon, now dry as a result
ofa three year drought. Beyond stretches the valley of
Esdraelon, the garden of ancient Palestine in which will be
fought the ultimate battle of Armageddon.
