DAD'S DUTY
I THESSALONIANS 2: 10 - 12

JESUS CHRIST used the image of a father to teach us about God.
In Matthew 5 - 7 He refers to Jehovah God as God 5 times and as
Father 17.
What would you do if a burglar broke into your house?
Father of four small children: "Out of habit, I'd get out of
bed, take him by the hand and lead him to the bathroom."
A dad is somebody who can: catch a fish, fly a kite, plant a
flower, catch a butterfly, get a kitty out of the mud. All
require dad as a person.
The Apostle Paul loved the church and as an apostle was
responsible for oversight. Paul's argument for his method of
instructing the church was that it was fatherly. He had used
constructive techniques such as should be used by a dad in his
own household. Three are noted:
I. HE WAS CONSTANTLY EXHORTING
The word "exhorted" meant "to call to ones side, to console and
strengthen."
We are to pass on what we receive from God the Father --
II Cor. 1: 3,4. Dad must realize:
A. "I can only properly influence my child when I believe in
who I am." Shakespeare's Theloncus: "To thine own self be
true, and it must follow as night follows day, thou cants not
then be false to any man."
B. "I can only expect my children to believe in the behavior I
model for them." Gary McSpaden sings, "What they seeis what
they hear."
C. "I can only know my children as I let them know me." Take a
close look at your transparent self. Are you willing for your
child to really know this person?
