1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, 2 which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3 concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh 4 and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, 5 through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, 6 including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ, 7 To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

And so opens Paul's letter to the romans.

There is a lot of bad news in the world today.

As you all know a murderer in La Vegas, last saturday, shot and killed 58 and injured over 500 people before killing himself.

In the middle east, Isis is cutting off people's heads and enslaving little girls for sex trafficking.

In fact there are approximately 20-30 million slaves in the world today (twice the pop of PA) with an average price 90 dollars each.

There is barely a week that goes by when you hear about a new politician or religious leader involved in scandal, or embezzlement, or adultery.

We regularly hear of pedaphiles being uncovered in schools and even churches.

Our nation is so wildly in debt it will be impossible to repay.

The Bad guys constantly get away and the good guys get blamed.

I wish this was a movie that we could turn off but this is real life.

We try to get beyond it by distracting ourselves- trying to replace it with good news. I was reading a good news website entitled the good news network- with inspirational heart warming stories.

There were stories about puppies getting adopted, siblings being reunited, there ...
