Romans 3:21-26
Over the last weeks we've heard a lot of bad news in Romans. About sin and wrath and judgment. But Rom 3:21-26 is a turning point. we're going to hear some really really good news.
These verses are a stunning explanation of the Gospel. This is the top of the mountain peak in romans- the rest of the book expands on it!
Martin Luther called it ''the chief point, and the very central place of the Epistle, and of the whole Bible.''
It's important to pay attention in church. But today it's really important.
We've been really looking forward to this passage. I want you to take it and embrace it and worship Jesus.
Because what you do with these verses determines where you spend eternity.
Now these verses are extremely tight. There is so much deep inexhaustible theology in here. But don't be intimidated.
Theology is not just for seminary professors and academics. Theology is for everyone.
And There might be some terminology you're not sure about. That's ok. We're going to unpack it verse by verse.
Let's read now Rom 3:21-26
21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it- 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
