Romans 8:1-17


Morning! We've finally come to Romans 8 (please turn there). This is a very special passage of Scripture.

Martin LLoyd Jones, who was a famous expository preacher in England, said that in all scripture the brightest and must lustrous flashing stone is romans- and chapter 8 is the brightest gem of the cluster. We're standing on holy ground.

It's fundamentally about the security of the believer in Christ. Our hope is complete and secure because of our union with Christ, by means of the holy spirit, because of the father's great love.

We're going to divide it into 3 sections

The first seventeen verses are about the ministry of the holy spirit in the believer's life. The spirit who has previously not been discussed in any detail is now mentioned some 20 times. That's where we're at today .

I'm not going to read the whole passage at the beginning. We're going to walk through it as we go. But I do want to read 4 verses that really capture the thrust of the text.


There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ''Abba! Father!'' 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
