Be Real (6 of 8)
Series: The ''Be'' Attitudes
Tony Thomas
Matthew 5:8
Frank W. Abagnale is a married father of three children. He owns and runs a financial fraud consulting company, and he consults and lectures at the FBI Academy. And, his life story inspired an academy winning film.
In 2002, Catch Me If You Can was released. Leonardo DiCaprio portrayed the role of Abegnale, and Tom Hanks was the FBI agent who pursued him. That film inspired a Broadway musical (by the same name), and a TV series called White Collar.
Between the ages of 16-21, Abagnale assumed no fewer than eight different identities, including an airline pilot, a physician, a lawyer, and a U.S. Bureau of Prisons agent. He was finally caught and imprisoned for less than five years because the FBI hired him to teach them his secrets on defrauding others!
His first victim was his own father! Mr Abagnale gave his son a credit card to pay for his gas in order to get him to his part-time job (he was only 15-years-old at the time). Abagnale used the card to purchase tires, batteries, and parts, which he sold and profited $3,400 before being caught.
Jesus said (Matthew 5:8), ''Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.'' Originally, this talk was titled, ''Be Pure,'' but the Greek word for pure means, ''Sincerity.'' It refers to something that is sifted in a sieve. When wheat is sifted, chaff is discarded and what's left is real.
We're in a series called the Be Attitudes. We're looking at the eight paradoxical statements that Jesus made in the Sermon on the Mount. These statements contrast what you read on Facebook and Twitter, and what you hear on the news.
Jesus said, ''Blessed are the poor in spirit. Blessed are those who mourn. Blessed are the meek. Blessed are those who pursue righteousness. Blessed are the merciful.''
That brings us to the sixth Be Attitude: ''Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God'' (Matthew 5:8). Blessed are those who are auth ...
