VICTORY OVER FRUSTRATION AND ANXIETY
I PETER 3: 13 - 17
(PAGE 1768 COME ALIVE BIBLE)
JESUS CHRIST is described as the One "who Himself bore our sins
in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might
live for righteousness - by whose stripes you were healed" (I
Peter 2: 24).
In a sick and hurting world the idea of being "healed" is
appealing. The word invokes images of being immune from
problems, exempt from sickness, and prevented from having
problems.
In an age when "prosperity theology" is profitable it is made to
appear that followers of Jesus will have no difficulties. As a
part of this school of thought, there is the theory of atonement
healing. That is, when you receive Christ thereafter there will
be no more sickness. Matthew 8: 17 is quoted, "He Himself took

taken to mean believers are not to be sick.
If His taking our infirmities and bearing our sicknesses is
fully applicable now, Paul seemed to have been confused for he
said, "...of myself I will not boast, except in my infirmities"
(II Cor. 12: 5).
The fulfillment of that Messianic passage related to Christ will
be complete in Heaven of which it is said, "And God will wipe
away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death,
nor sorrow, nor crying; and there shall be no more pain, for the
former things have passed away" (Rev. 21:4).
It is necessary to work through that false concept to face
reality. Everybody, Christians included, even devout ones doing
God's will, do have problems. Bad things do happen to good
peopl ...
