Do the Demons Know Your Name?
Richard Bradley
Acts 19:11-18

Now here is a question I bet no one has asked you in a long time; maybe ever. Are you on a first name basis with the demons? Do the demons know your name? Apparently, Jesus and Paul were on a first name basis with the demons but not the sons of Sceva. Demonism was a problem in Paul's day because the power of God was very active in his day. Whenever and wherever God is working the forces of evil will always be strongest.

Demonic influence was such a problem in Paul's day that charlatans and fakes made a living posing as itinerant exorcists. The seven sons of Sceva heard something they thought they could use; the name of Jesus. They didn't know Jesus they only heard that Paul was preaching him and that people were being delivered from demonic oppression and possession. What they didn't know is that the name of Jesus is not something to be used; it's a lifestyle.

It ought to be the objective every born-again believer to be on a first name basis with the demons. Do the demons know your name or could it be that you've never come to their attention?

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, ''Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?''
16 Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
17 This became known both to all Jews and Greeks dwelling in Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and ...
