16 They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods; with abominations they provoked Him to anger. 17 They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they did not know, to new gods, new arrivals that your fathers did not fear.

Two Sundays ago I preached on the difference between superstition and the supernatural. Superstition is not based on fact or the fundamentals of the Bible. On the other hand, the supernatural goes beyond and cannot be explained by the natural elements of this world. God inhabits the supernatural world but then so does evil.

According to the Bible demons are part of the unseen, supernatural world of evil. Demons apparently had their origin in heaven as angels who fell from God's grace. Believers need to be informed about demons and to recognize their role in spiritual warfare. We don't need to be obsessed with them but we do need to know what they do and how to defeat them.

Notice what the Bible says about demons:

DEMONS PERVERT THE TRUTH (Deut. 32:16-17):

16 They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods; with abominations they provoked Him to anger. 17 They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they did not know, to new gods, new arrivals that your fathers did not fear.

1 Corinthians 10:19-20

19 What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? 20 Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons.

Any religious pursuit that does not honor God as the only true God and does not give Jesus His rightful place as God's only Son and the Savior of the world is a doctrine of demons. The tenets of Islam are demonically inspired. The practice of Buddhism is demonically inspired.

Whatever is of God and is good and holy has been and will be perverted by Satan and his followers. If God has His gospel and His follower ...
