JESUS CHRIST was born at a time when the world was reeling from
the impact of Alexander the Great...Herod the Great...Augustus
the Great. Little did they note the birth of Mary's Little
Lamb.
The lead news feature on all four networks in 1809 would have
centered on a story coming from Austria. The attention of the
world was focused on a man named Napoleon the Great. His name
was a synonym for superiority and strength. In 1809 he was busy
conquering Austria and continuing his maddening war on the
world.
Few people noted at the time the births of some very important
infants.
WILLIAM GLADSTONE, destined to become one of Great Britain's
most outstanding Prime Ministers, was born in Liverpool.
OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES cried out for the first time in Cambridge,
Massachusetts.
CHARLES was the name given the new born son of Dr. and Mrs.
DARWIN.
A log cabin with one side having fallen out in Hardin County,
Kentucky, where an illiterate, wandering laborer and his wife
lived pinned their first diaper on their newborn son named
ABRAHAM LINCOLN.
