Angry with God Pt 1 (3 of 4)
Series: Jonah: More than a Fish Story
Michael White
Jonah 4:1-5
Charles was lain out in his hospital bed- and he had been there for the past 2 months. Amidst numerous injuries he had broken both legs and one of his arms, fractured his jaw bone, and suffered a severe concussion. He had lost a significant amount of blood, experienced extreme and constant nausea following his concussion, and could not even get up on his own to use the restroom.
His trip to the hospital had obviously not been one that had been planned. 2 months earlier, he was driving late at night when a drunk driver coming the opposite direction swerved out of his lane and smashed head on onto Charles' car. The driver of the other vehicle survived but Charles' brother John, who was sitting in the passenger seat, tragically died.
When he woke up in the hospital after his accident his first feelings were of intense pain, then at the realization of the loss of his brother, extreme sorrow, then depression... and as he continued to reflect on his pain and sadness, he became increasingly angry at God. In fact he was in a rage. He asked how could God do this to me and my brother? Why was he taken so early in life? He furiously clenched his fists and cursed God.
Anger with God. It's a skeleton in the closet of many christians, something that often goes unnoticed. Maybe you've thought,
God why did you allow my family to break apart? How could you let me lose my home to bankruptcy? Why did you let this loved one die so young? Why didn't you make me attractive, or athletic, or funny? God, I am furious at this!
Are you angry with God?? Do you disapprove of the circumstances that God has ordained in your life? Does the current predicament that God has placed you in set you in a rage? - because you feel that you deserve better?
SO I'll ask you the same question God asked Jonah, ''Do you do well to be angry?''
Do you have good reason to be angry with Go ...
